Poetry Night: George Wallace In-Person

Hosted by Tony Iovino, George Wallace will read from his latest work, including lyrical adaptations of some of his poems used in musical composition.

Bio: George Wallace is a poet, editor, and spoken word performer with an international presence. He is editor of Poetrybay.com, co-editor of Great Weather for Media, and editor of Long Island Quarterly as well as Walt’s Corner, a weekly poetry column in The Long Islander, the community newspaper founded by Walt Whitman in 1838.

Suffolk County’s first poet laureate and Writer in Residence at the Walt Whitman Birthplace, George has published 44 books and chapbooks of poetry in the U.S., U.K., Italy, Macedonia, and India, and released eight spoken word albums. A prominent figure on the NYC poetry performance scene, he travels internationally to perform, lead workshops, and lecture on literary topics. His diverse background includes work as a Peace Corps volunteer, health care administrator, community organizer, journalist, active duty medical officer, and local historian. His work is archived at the Special Sections Collection of the LI Studies Institute at Hofstra University.
